01 ~ The Saffer Home

The Saffer family seeks a thoughtfully designed home that meets both functionality and aesthetic needs. This design will reflect their desire for ample storage, an open layout between the kitchen and family room, ADA accessibility, abundant natural light, vibrant pops of color, space for hosting guests, and a pet-friendly environment.

Design Statement:

Home is a collection of what you love. An open space with many windows allows for natural light to fill the room, where friends and family can come together in fellowship. Soft, inviting textures, soothing color palettes, and gentle lighting, it ensures that every corner or the home inhabits a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. Decor from past trips, surf boards, and big tables for the kids to do their homework incorporates all the things the Saffer family enjoys.

02 ~ The Vital

The Vital is a wellness-focused commercial building located at 1020 Main Street in Lynchburg, VA. It is designed to make healthy living convenient by bringing movement, nutrition, and self-care into one place, including a Pilates studio, health café, wellness shop, spa, office spaces, and residential apartments. The coastal-inspired interiors use soft colors, natural textures, and abundant light to create a calm, open atmosphere. Sustainable materials and finishes were selected to support healthier indoor air quality, reduce environmental impact, and promote long-term durability. Overall, The Vital is designed to support everyday wellness while encouraging a more sustainable way of living in the heart of downtown.

03 - Universal & Sustainable Design Group Project

The goal of this renovation project is to thoughtfully remodel Mr. and Mrs. Wade’s master suite and nearby bedrooms to fit their evolving needs as they approach retirement, focusing on comfort, functionality, aesthetics, and the use of eco-friendly materials.

Our overall design incorporates the principles of balance and rhythm to create a calm, organized space. Symmetrical furniture placement and repeated warm tones with a neutral palette support the principles of design. All of the aspects of our design remain within the $45,000 budget, with a set final cost of $44,414 to create a renovation that is functional, comfortable, and aesthetic that will support the Wades in this next chapter of their life.

To make the space safer and easier to move through, we redesigned the master suite to be barrier-free. We replaced swinging doors with sliding ones, which take up less space, reduce the risk of accidents, and allow for wider, more stylish openings. We also created clear, accessible pathways and followed ADA guidelines, including a 60-inch turning radius, grab bars in the bathroom, accessible shower controls, and smooth flooring transitions. These updates ensure the Wades can move around safely and comfortably as they age.

04 - Assisted Living Facility

For this project, I was hired by McBride Stephens, LLC to design the initial plans for a 2-3 story building at the Smith Mountain Lake Retirement & Graduated Care Community. This building combines memory care and assisted living apartments, allowing couples with different care needs to stay social and active.

The design includes 20 assisted living units and 10 memory care rooms, along with shared dining areas, lounges, activity spaces, and staff support areas. It also features a thoughtful ADA-compliant floor plan, sustainable design elements, and modern aesthetics. I proposed three added amenities to enhance resident well-being, which includes a sunroom, gym, and outdoor space.

I designed modern renderings through Enscape and Revit of a dining room and apartment focusing on comfort, accessibility, and a sense of home. My goal was to create spaces that promote independence while encouraging social connection. These designs are important because they support both physical and emotional health of residents.

05 ~ Skippers Restaurant

I designed a lighting plan for Skippers, an upscale restaurant at Smith Mountain Lake, creating a layered scheme that enhances the dining atmosphere and highlights the 15-foot ceiling. The reflected ceiling plan integrates ambient, accent, decorative, task, daylight controls, and life-safety lighting, along with coordinated back-of-house lighting and locations for security, speakers, and smart controls to ensure a functional, code-compliant, and visually cohesive space.

06 ~ RCP & Specifications

For this residential project, I developed multiple detailed reflected ceiling plans (RCP) that illustrates ceiling heights, lighting placement, fixture types, and a custom ceiling feature to enhance the design. The furniture layout was included and grayed back to show how the lighting plan relates to the overall floor plan and supports functionality within the space. In addition, I began a specification book that includes manufacturer tear sheets and technical information for each selected fixture, coded to correspond with the RCP.
